It should surprise no one that I keep a detailed list of every concert I've been to — artist, date, and venue. There are lots of great shows and great memories on that list. But one that I always come back to is a night in 2011. Hope and I were at Radio City Music Hall to see Iron and Wine — surprisingly, only the second concert we'd ever attended as a couple. Back then, live music wasn't something we did. Our lives were filled with the busyness of raising young kids, and going to concerts was just not a priority for how we spent time together.
That said, Iron and Wine was a favorite of mine, and I was thrilled to share this night with Hope. The show was incredible, culminating in a haunting rendition of "The Trapeze Singer." Radio City was stunned silent. But my favorite memory of the night was as we walked out and Hope said to me, "I want to see more live music."
Years later, concerts are now a big part of our lives, and we've seen many great shows, including Bruce Springsteen, Taylor Swift, Maggie Rogers, Boygenius, Waxahatchee and more. It's a thread that ties into so many parts of our life, and a passion that has passed down to our children.
